The Harsh Reality in Haiti:

In Haiti's picturesque landscape of resilience and beauty, the dream of homeownership is besieged by immense challenges. Economic hardship, predatory loans, and soaring costs often prolong the dream across generations. The devastating 2010 earthquake, which claimed over 230,000 lives and left 1.5 million homeless, starkly underscores Haiti's vulnerabilities. This was further exacerbated by the 2021 earthquake in the Sud Department, which resulted in at least 2,248 deaths and extensive damage, leaving about 650,000 people in dire need of assistance.

The Persistent Threat:

The World Bank's 2021 Household Food Security and Vulnerability Survey (HFPS) paints a grim picture: 68% of Haitian households are at risk from multiple natural hazards, including cyclones and earthquakes. The poorest and female-headed households face the greatest dangers with limited resources for disaster preparedness. These adversities, compounded by economic struggles, make building a home an uphill battle.

Our Mission of Sustainability and Transformation:

Haiti Community Development Fund is dedicated to more than just constructing houses. We aim to build sustainable, resilient communities where families can thrive. Our approach includes:

• Equitable Tiered Path to Homeownership: Integrating community service into the payment process for accessible homeownership.

• Modern Amenities in Every Home: Ensuring essential comforts like plumbing, electricity, and air conditioning.

• Infrastructure for Sustainable Living: Developing renewable energy, roads, and waste management systems.

Our Proactive Steps:

Responding to these challenges, we have initiated our project by ordering and testing three expandable homes made from durable materials, designed to withstand Haiti's environmental conditions. The enthusiastic community feedback on these pilot homes reaffirms our commitment to sustainable housing solutions.
